For most people, buying a home is a major milestone in their pursuit of the American Dream. Unfortunately, there are many pitfalls along the way that can make the dream harder to achieve. Our article on the home-buying process can help you avoid or overcome many of these obstacles. Once you get your financial “ducks” in a row, it’s just a matter of finding a home that you can afford and that meets all of your family’s needs and provides at least a few of your “nice-to-haves.”
One of the key reasons people start looking for a new home is the prospect of a growing family. Whether you’re planning to have one baby or a bunch of little ones, we are lucky to have healthcare facilities like UPMC Pinnacle in the area that are well equipped to handle our baby boom. In this issue, we explore UPMC Pinnacle’s ongoing upgrades, including new labor/delivery and OB/intake rooms. The improvements also include a fully equipped Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a new operating room.
Once you get that bundle of joy home, you may find yourself much more concerned about things like fire safety. In this issue, we’re teaming up with the U.S. Fire Administration to provide a free activity book that makes it fun to teach your kids about fire safety. They’ll learn important tips about how to prevent a fire, how to plan a route to escape, and what to do if the unthinkable happens and a fire actually does break out in your home.
Finally, our article on fairy gardens explores the history and craft behind creating whimsical miniature gardens. This also might be a fun project to do with kids. While they may quickly lose interest in digging holes and taking care of a large patch of ground, creating their own little garden tucked away in a pot or a wheelbarrow might just spark a lifelong interest in a healthy pastime. Enjoy!
