CAMP HILL – February is Heart Health Awareness Month and Holy Spirit is celebrating by hosting its 8th annual Day of Dance. The free event will be held on Saturday, February 21, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., at Cedar Cliff High School, 1301 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill. Area fitness instructors will lead dance demonstrations with lots of audience participation.
“Dancing is a great way to get your heart rate up, drop extra body fat and a few pounds, and build lean muscle—plus, it’s fun,” says Megan Atticks, Spirit of Women coordinator. “You can learn a variety of dance steps and workouts that get you moving and your heart pumping.”
Cardiovascular disease is the leading killer of women over age 25. It kills nearly twice as many women in the U.S. as all types of cancer, including breast cancer. Regular exercise can help prevent heart disease because it helps to maintain a healthy weight and can lower blood pressure and cholesterol. “Our hope is we inspire women and their families to incorporate something fun like dance into their regular exercise routine,” Atticks says.
In addition to the dancing fun, adults 18 and older can sign up for free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, body mass index (BMI), bone density scans, cardiovascular risk assessments, non-fasting glucose and cholesterol tests, and sleep assessments. Holy Spirit staff will have heart health information available as well.
Day of Dance is Holy Spirit’s largest annual community event and always draws a crowd. Children are encouraged to attend with adult supervision. The first 500 pre-registered attendees through the door will receive a commemorative T-shirt at check-in.
